Now, the last time that R. Kelly was in North Carolina, he was performing in front of thousands of fans inside the Greensboro Coliseum in 2018, amidst a growing cry from protesters urging to cancel the singer for his decades of abuse.  Now, the disgraced entertainer is back in the Tar Heel State... but this time, he's behind bars. 

The disgraced singer was sentenced on child pornography charges, with a mostly concurrent sentence with his 30-year term from his NY case.

"We believe justice has been served," a Chicago prosecutor said today (Jan 30).

The release comes three months after the singer was found guilty of federal sex crimes in his hometown of Chicago.

On Tuesday, R. Kelly filed two motions through his lawyer with a judge in Chicago to have either his federal conviction for child pornography and sexual abuse overturned or grant a new trial. Jennifer Bonjean, Kelly's lead attorney wrote in the motion that the prosecution used "perjured testimony" from a clinical psychologist in the case in addition to claiming the government didn't prove fully that the singer abused the minors in question.

The singer was previously sentenced to 30 years in prison after a sex crimes conviction last fall.
