Raleigh Police are responding to a shooting near Raleigh’s North Hills shopping center, where at least one person was killed.

WRAL reports that authorities responded to the crime scene before 11 am Friday morning (Jan. 17). Officers were scattered near the shopping center’s entrance, located in the 4300 block of The Circle At North Hills Street.

WRAL says that much of the investigation appears to be centered around Coquette, a French restaurant at North Hills.

From WRAL:

WRAL News interviewed Gretchen Coley with The Coley Group, an office building that overlooks the restaurant. Coley said said her staff saw people run from Coquette, and there appeared to be blood and injuries.

Coley, whose family lives in North Hills area, became emotional describing what she saw.

“We’ve probably got 15 people in the office, we have children down the street. To have something like this happening right outside our office is heartbreaking,” Coley said.

Raleigh Police say that it is not an active shooter situation.

Multiple roads around the area, including Six Forks Road and Lassiter Mill Road, are currently blocked.

SCHOOL LOCKDOWNS

As a result of the shooting, several schools in the area are under “code yellow” or “code red” lockdowns. “Code yellow” means that the school day proceeds with extra precaution. “Code red” means that all activities are stopped and students will stay in their classrooms until the “all clear.”

  • Carroll Middle School – Code Red
  • Brooks Magnet ES – Code Red
  • Green Magnet ES – Code Yellow
  • Douglas Magnet ES – Code Yellow
  • Root ES – Code Yellow

Parents are advised to not pick up their children at the schools. Six Forks Rd and Lassiter Mill Road are closed in both directions and crashes on Six Forks Rd. are complicating traffic.

This is a developing story.
