Two days after his decisive victory in the North Carolina elections, Governor-Elect Josh Stein has announced the people who will help him transition into office.
Stein, the Democrat who served as NC’s Attorney General since 2017, defeated Republican Lt. Governor Mark Robinson on Tuesday (Nov. 5) to replace term-limited Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper in office. Stein will be replaced in his current position by Democratic U.S. Rep. Jeff Jackson, winning the AG race over Republican Rep. Dan Bishop.

In a press release obtained by WRAL on Thursday (Nov. 7), Stein announced the six people who will lead his transition team.
- Seth Dearmin, Stein’s chief of staff at the North Carolina Department of Justice.
- Kristi Jones, vice president for Public Affairs and Sustainability at utility company NiSource, who previously served as Cooper’s chief of staff in the governor’s office.
- Richard Stevens, an attorney, former state senator, and former chairman of UNC-Chapel Hill’s board of trustees.
- Malcomb Coley, a partner at Bright Hope Capital, a firm created to invest in and build minority-owned companies.
- Esther Manheimer, the current mayor of Asheville.
- Christie McNeill, who recently served as partner at McKinsey and Company advising clients with a focus on financial services and energy transition. Stein announced that she will be the transition team’s executive director.
In the statement, Stein said the following:
”I am honored that these talented folks have agreed to lead our transition team. We have the opportunity to make a real difference in North Carolina, and I am looking forward to working closely with them to hire hard-working, public-spirited people who will move our state forward.
State law allows the governor to hire hundreds of political appointees. The number of appointees was larger, but Republican lawmakers slashed the number days before Gov. Cooper took office.
