Get ready to celebrate Halloween this October with a wide array of fun and frightening events from Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) suitable for all ages!

Kicking off the Halloween season we have Fright Night, a free extravaganza that features carnival games, costume parades, and even a hair-raising adventure along the haunted trail, where creepy creatures lurk at every turn. Activities and fun for all ages. No pre-registration required.

If you’re looking for a fright this Halloween, look no further than our Creepy Clown Trail, a ghastly take on our popular flashlight scavenger hunt. According to legend, years ago on a dark and stormy night a clown car crashed into the Eno River. The car was recovered but the occupants were never found. Ever since, on one night a year clowns can be seen haunting the trails of West Point on the Eno. Bring a flashlight and search for clowns along the trail but watch out for Buttons, he’s a little grumpy. This adults-only event (18+) requires preregistration to participate. Please note that this event is weather dependent. The fee for City Residents is $1.50, for Non-City Residents, it is $6.50.

Children 12 and under are invited to our Pumpkin Splash events where they will have the chance to dive into the pool and select their favorite pumpkin, dry it off on the pool deck and use paints, stickers, and all kinds of fun craft supplies to decorate it. All swim levels are invited to participate, and life vests will be provided. An adult will need to enter the water with children 9 years of age and younger. Pre-registration for this event is required and registration opened on September 3. City Resident Fee: $6. Non-City Resident Fee: $11.

Show off your monster moves and dance the night away at our Monster Bash. Be sure to wear your favorite costume! This event is for adults 18 and up and registration is required. City Resident Fee: $4. Non-City Resident Fee: $9.

We couldn’t leave our furry friends out of the hair-raising fun, so bring your dogs down to our annual Barktoberfest celebration! Join us for a free afternoon of fun which will include a costume contest, games, a beer garden, pet-friendly organizations and vendors, food vendors, and more! No pre-registration is required, and Barktoberfest is open to all ages.

Join us for our 35th annual HallowEno event, an evening full of free fun for the whole family! Designed particularly for children ages 12 and younger, this special event features campfire stories and songs, hayrides, treats, crafts, games, and much more. No pre-registration is required, and it open to all ages. HallowEno is a rain or shine event!

Join our Holton staff for a fun-filled family event celebrating fall at the annual Trunk or Treat extravaganza! This free event involves the open trunks of cars displaying candy and decorations for costumed kids to come and celebrate Halloween in a safe environment. Costumes are not required but will make the event more exciting. We would love to see participants dress up as someone who is 100 years old to celebrate DPR’s 100^th birthday this year! Parents are encouraged to participate by decorating their trunks and handing out candy, but it is not required. Pre-registration for this event is required, and children ages 0-17 are welcome to participate and fill their bags with candy.
