What do you get when you blend the National Anthem, Otis Redding‘s ultra classic “Try A Little Tenderness,” and some powerful reworked lyrics? R&B singer Joe‘s new song “Our Anthem.”
The song’s powerful message encourages us to look after one another, and to treat our brothers and sisters “with tenderness.” In the video, Joe sings amongst vintage photos and videos of civil rights leaders and activists. The piece as a whole pays homage to lives that we saw cut much too short by police brutality, such as Michael Brown and Sean Bell, while showing us the beautiful faces of children of all colors.
Between its strong message and Joe‘s strong and buttery vocals, “Our Anthem” is definitely a song we can get behind.
