Usher Throws Shade To The Celebration of Independence Day

Singer Usher made a bold statement at the Essence Festival yesterday. The headliner at the Essence Festival on Saturday night, wore a leather jacket that displayed the following,”Have we truly achieved our independence?”

The United States declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776, but it wasn’t until the abolition of slavery in 1865—an event now celebrated June 19th as Juneteenth that every black American gained their freedom.
