What Is Cinco de Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo in English means the 5th of May, but what is it/why is there a celebration? Cinco de Mayo is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over the French Army at the Battle Of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. Cinco de Mayo was observed in America to commemorate “the cause of freedom and democracy” during the first years of the American Civil War; it also celebrates Mexican heritage and pride.
